Tuition and Fee Reimbursements

In the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years the School District of Philadelphia will offer the following tuition and fee reimbursements through the Office of Talent to teachers, counselors, nurses and paraprofessionals.

*NEW Praxis Reimbursement: We will reimburse the full cost of Praxis for the successful completion of the test.

  • Who is eligible? All professional staff or Paraprofessionals who are enrolled or completed a teacher certification program
  • Score is based on Pennsylvania passing scores
  • Praxis taken after March 1, 2022 are eligible for reimbursement

*NEW Level II Reimbursement: We will reimburse the cost courses taken toward a Level II certification up to $2500.00

  • Who is eligible? All professional staff working toward their Instructional II or Education Specialist II
  • Courses must be taken at a 4-year degree granting accredited institution
  • Tuition reimbursement will be granted for up to $2500 per school year
  • Courses taken after July 1st and after the date of employment
  • Applications can be submitted once the course is completed and a grade of “B” or better is received on an official sealed transcript

*NEW Certification Program Courses: We will reimburse the cost of certification program courses up to $2500.00

  • Who is eligible? All professional staff working on an emergency permit or Intern certificate that are continuously enrolled in a certification program
  • Courses must be taken at a 4-year degree granting accredited institution or PDE approved certification program.
  • Tuition reimbursement will be granted for up to $2500 per school year
  • Courses taken after July 1st and after the date of employment
  • Applications can be submitted once the course is completed and a grade of “B” or better is received on an official sealed transcript

Emergency Permit Application Fee: We will reimburse the cost of the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s emergency permit fee of $100

  • All professional staff on an emergency permit
  • Cost of the approved emergency permit ($100) within 60 days of employment, the start of the school year, or start of new appointment.

Career Development Fund: We will provide tuition assistance for the cost of college credits up to $600.00.

  • Who is eligible? Appointed Secretaries, School Operations Officers, Paraprofessionals, Non-Teaching Assistants, Teachers who need to be re-certified (only for teachers who do not hold a Level 2 certification), and the Para-Technical Unit Members
  • Tuition reimbursement will be granted for up to $600 per school year
  • Courses taken in the current school year but after the date of employment
  • Applications can be submitted once the course is completed and a grade of “C” or better is received on an official sealed transcript.  You can view and complete the application here.

National Board Certification Application Expenses: We will reimburse classroom teachers up to $2500.00 for application fees and expenses incurred in applying for Nation Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification.

  • Who is eligible? Classroom Teachers
  • Application fees and expenses incurred in applying for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification
  • Reimbursement will be granted for up to $2500 per school year
  • Must be an employee at the time of application for the NBCT certification
  • Eligible for reimbursement only for fees and expenses involved in applying for NBCT after receiving
  • the certification
  • Starting in the 2022-2023 school year, applications will be accepted year-round. Applications can be submitted once the course is completed and a grade of “C” or better is received on an official sealed transcript
